Sunset in Malta happens over the western horizon, which means the best viewing is from the water. From a boat, you get an unobstructed line of sight that land-based spots cannot match, plus the bonus of Valletta's limestone fortifications turning deep gold in the last hour of light. Sunset times range from around 17:15 in early May to 20:45 at the summer solstice, with most sunset cruises departing two to three hours before sundown.
